Is The Sky Your Limit? Not Mine!

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?” - Marianne Williamson

Let’s begin with a few questions. What exactly are you capable of achieving? What is a realistic expectation for your life and what are impossible and should not be desired? Is there a limit to how high you should aim? The straight answer is that you are capable of achieving anything you set your mind to; if you can think it, then it’s a realistic expectation; and you can aim as high as you want; you can achieve it.

We have all heard and almost believed that “the sky is the limit.” This would seem to have a lot of wisdom in it at first glance. This implies that man’s potential has a limit when in actual fact, man’s potential is limitless. Potential is all that you can be, but have not yet become. It is all you can accomplish, but have not yet accomplished. It is unexposed or dormant ability that is evolving. This means that the ability to become and to do things already exists. It just hasn’t been activated and utilized. Can you imagine that the computer that was used to transport man to the moon those days is not as powerful as your smart phone? That is the power of human potential. The sky cannot be the limit!

Similarly, our minds have unlimited potential. It has the limitless ability to create things believed to be unimaginable or impossible. Daily, humanity makes new discoveries. Can we then put a limit to our potentials? No. Our potentials defy modern scientific limitation. It remains a mystery. Your most powerful asset is your mind. The answer to the question ‘what is a realistic goal and what is achievable’ is entirely up to you. If your mind can accept that something is achievable, it will find a way to attain that thing. However, it could take time to manifest.

“Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.” These are the immortal words of Napoleon Hill, a man who truly understood that “there are no limitations to the mind except those we acknowledge.”

Your possibilities are limited only by your thinking. It is the result of your individual mindset. What may be a limit for one person is a walk in the park, for another it is creating a new machine to help mankind solve some problems. If you believe you truly have unlimited potential and the ability to become and to achieve anything you want, then you need to define what you want out of life and demand it of yourself.

If all the knowledge and wealth in the world were at your disposal what three things would you want to be and to do?
I bet many of us are very likely to find it difficult to come up with three goals that we are absolutely passionate about and to which would dedicate our lives. The problem is not lack of potentials. It is not due to limited possibilities, it is your thinking!

Only you can limit your vision. The problem is that you don’t know what you should be. You’re not to be blamed for this. Our educational system has shrunk your boundless potential to narrow areas of specialisation called professions.
To achieve and maximise your potential, you have to break free from this mould. You are not what you do. You are what you could be. You need to see yourself as the truly capable human being that you are.

You need to cultivate and nurture the right mindset. This requires thorough personal examination and assessment of your mindset. Have you adopted society’s standard as yours? Most of us have accepted things simply because everyone else accepts them.
Ordinary people do not like to see others achieve great heights. That is why mediocrity is often embraced and excellence is shunned. It only exposes their lack of vision and motivation. Being ordinary is acceptable. Our society celebrates mediocrity.

It is perceived that something is wrong with you if you desire and demand more of and for yourself. Achievers don’t engage in the popularly acceptable standards. Dreamers do what no one else is doing and in return, get what majority of people could only wish for. Set your own standards and maximise the potential you have within you.

When a prospector goes in search of gold, he mines a lot of dirt and a little gold in the process. He picks his gold and keeps digging, not minding the quantity of useless dirt. He is not digging for dirt, but gold. Same goes for your potential. If you do not challenge yourself to grow beyond your present circumstances, it will just waste away and be totally useless not only to you, but to the rest of humanity.
You can make the difference. Humanity needs the resources in you. Develop, maximise and utilise your potential. Be the best you can be. "Live full, die empty" as Les Brown would say.

You are all you can be. Be the best you possible! Go on and be it.
